Most homes in La Nucía and Polop are detached villas with their own garden and pool, often a little further from the neighbours. There is no concierge to take a look. A pool pump that fails, a garden that dries out when the irrigation breaks, a power cut after a thunderstorm or a gate left open after a storm: if nobody notices, you only find out when you come back.

• Checking the pool and garden, and letting in the gardener, plumber or engineer

Rates

For a villa in La Nucía or Polop, Basic (€ 45 per month, one inspection round) is usually enough. If you are here often yourself, Key Holding at € 20 will do. If you are away for long, Carefree (€ 125, two rounds a month) is the best choice. Pool maintenance and cleaning are charged separately. With Basic, Comfort or Carefree there is no call-out charge. With Key Holding and one-off jobs, a call-out charge of € 10 per trip applies.
